Bar Throated Siva is a beautiful bird belonging to the family of babblers. Binomially known as Siva strigula the Bar Throated Siva is a very close relative of the Red-Billed Leiothrix.

The markings on this bird are quite similar to the Red-Billed Leiothrix but has a longer and different tail and the head is also different. It has a yellow crest with black patches on the cheek and black bars on the throat which gives it the name Bar Throated Siva.

Bar Throated Siva is a very beautiful bird mostly found in temperate broadleaved forests of the Eastern Himalayas. Its sighing is very scarce. It is usually found in bushes and dense undergrowth. These birds have attracted photographers and bird watchers for a long time.



Bar Throated Siva has a call very similar to a thrush which has around 15 notes and rattling sounds.

Bar Throated Siva like all babblers forage in the undergrowth and are usually seen in flocks of 10 or more. These birds are quite noisy and can be heard before coming into sight.

Standardized Nepali name is still not available for this bird and they vary from region to region. In some regions, it is called Bagaley and in some regions Bhyakura and lots of other names.
